On Saturday 26th October 2019, FodShop hosted a Wellness in IBS Workshop together with The Sports Injury Clinic, Lifestyle Nutrition & Hypfocus.
In our three-part seminar, the nutritional, physical and psychological aspects of gut health and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptom management prior to, and during family planning, were discussed.
In the first session, Melinda Braithwaite APD discussed what irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and the low FODMAP diet is, pinpointing dietary triggers prior to pregnancy, the nutrients of concern prior to pregnancy, maintaining a healthy body weight for mother & baby, and discussed some important gut friendly & low FODMAP resources attendees can use to help them eat well along their journey.
In the second session, Katie Barnes, Accredited Exercise Physiologist, discussed the types of physical changes that occur to a woman's body in pregnancy, safe physical activity for pregnant women, and the health benefits of maintaining a healthy exercise regimen prior to, and during pregnancy.
Georgina Mitchell, Clinical Hypnotherapist & Counsellor, discussed cultural differences in attitudes towards pregnancy, addressing fear & anxiety prior to pregnancy, and ended her session with a practical hypnotic regimen to help us wind down and calm nervous tension.
The rest of the time was spent enjoying delicious FODMAP friendly afternoon tea nibbles, including veggie dippers and Orgran Wafer Crackers dipped into Nogo Sauces Jalapeno Salso, Roza's Gourmet low FODMAP Dill & Parsley Mayonnase, Vegan Mayonnaise and Nut Free Pesto, and EveryMite.
